I haven't done anything on my LiveJournal since I was home for New Years, and holy wow, the last thing I posted on here was David development. (He got accepted, by the way, and has changed a bit from his original designs since I learned how to draw buff people.) Guess that means it's time for an art update.

First, Tegaki. I've been watching some awesome people (SlimmerCat especially) Livestream their Tegaki pictures, and it has taught me a lot of things. Here's a few new entries.

Here are two entries I did seperately with the goal of combining them like this. IsiDemo is on the left, and Dirk on the right. Both of them are OCs for Team Fortress, and both come from the same goup, Gang Fortress. Dirk was a second-class medic who worked up through the ranks with Isi, and they had a relationship. She was told he was dead, but we recently have learned that he is still alive. :B

And another picture of Dirk. Actually, a lot of these pictures will be of him, since he's been the subject of an art bug. I know the arms are kinda short in this one - though they are longer than they appear at first; the bends are hidden by his sleeves and his shoulders are pulled way back - but I got the face to look right and I was too pleased with the coloring job to fix it. Also, this makes me very very sad.

Also, yesterday was David's 25th birthday. I'm not going to link the entry, since the art quality falls off for the last few posts, but he got a ukelele from his family. :B
On to other art, done through Photoshop. I'll start with my entry for the War Update's propaganda contest. I didn't win anything or make the runners up, but I like how it came out anyway. The paper texture overlay is not mine; I got it from stock.

And other one of Dirk. He's a funny guy; extremely helpful and smart, but really bad about minding his own business. It's what got him into trouble in the first place.

And then a little loadout meme I filled out for myself. Meet my TF2 self, the Spectator Medic.

I think this'll be all for now. I've got other stuff that I still need to scan and, in some cases, color. Hopefully there won't be another five month break between posts this time.

Concept Sketches

As an exercise in character development (and if he turns out well, for use in RPs), I've been working on an OC Heavy. My goal was to make him unique, but definitely a heavy weapons sort of guy. What I got was David Ulomoy, a half-Samoan (he also spent several of his younger years living in Samoa) who went AWOL from the Navy when his CO was replaced and the new one bullied him about his Islander blood. His bio is over a page long in my little tiny handwriting, so I put a lot of thought into him. Also, I am leaning towards BLU as his team, because it looks better on him. XD

The hardest part about him (and I still haven't succeeded) has been getting him to look distinctly Samoan. I have been making progress though, especially by observing certain people on campus and by looking up photos.

David is quiet and a bit anti-social, a learned behavior when many of his shipmates protested over serving with "that Islander." He will make friends, just not easily; he also greatly dislikes loud and annoying people. He doesn't speak much, but is a hard and dedicated worker. He greatly enjoys beating the living crud out of people, but has a moral code that restricts him from doing so. If you give him excuse, though, he is going to take every bit of pleasure possible.

Beginning and Goals

This is my first blog, created so that I can track my art progression without having to save a million sheets of paper (at least, that's the plan). Feel free to leave comments telling me things I need to work on. c:

Let's start with a bit about me.

I am a freshman at BYU, with a preanimation major. I love music and play tuba in the marching band here, but also have several years of experience with the flute and the piano. I love to read, and my favorite genre is sci-fi/fantasy. I also write stories and do text-based roleplays (think writing with more than one author rather than things like Dungeons and Dragons).

I used to specialize in drawing dragons, but lately I have been working on my people more. Thank you, TF2, for being such a wonderful practice tool. c: I also got a Tegaki, which is improving my digital painting by leaps and bounds.

I am not a very hardcore gamer, but I do love a few. Namely, Team Fortress 2. The art style and the character designs all make me drool (not just because some of those man-types are pretty fine XD), and the game play is supportive of both newbs like me and experienced gamers. Also hitting that list are simple games like Dino Run (a sidescroller where you save your little dino from impending meteor doom) and old games like Mystic Towers.

I can't think of anything else that you need to know about me, so until next time. c:
